People don't realize how long mistakes can lurk in cyberspace

It never pays to be a jerk on a board or anywhere else. When someone asks for a recommendation on a product or a guru, the search-mavens will hop onto search engines and go hunting for references... user handles, IP addresses, etc, etc. You leave quite a trail and quite a tale of who you are in those interactions.
There was one poster here within the past two years who was a greedy jerk and who left to start a bulletin board. But their personality came through on their new board and I saw indications that others across the net read and researched this person, and saw the very greedy and negative and predatory nature of this person.
Lots of posts linked to posts that the person had made on other boards (including ours.)
In cyberspace, the "do not do to others the things that you would not have done to you" rule applies in spades. In real life, words can be hard to prove after a few months. In cyberspace, the text you typed can hang around for years.

Do yourself a favor and turn your legal team loose in greener pastures.
