I haven't used Yahoo Stores, so can't comment on them specifically. IF they give you a boost in rankings in yahoo.com, then it might be the way to go. After all, there are other search engines than google :)
Some other suggestions -
Some shopping cart software is very search-engine friendly - for instance, I use cubecart and am reasonably happy with it. Others use oscommerce. ... and I'm sure there are countless more. They'd require your friend to have web hosting, a domain name and a little learning curve to put the products on to the web site. But I guess there's a learning curve with Yahoo stores as well.
Another alternative might be to open an eBay store and sell at fixed price. I don't know the exact terms and conditions for that - so you'd have to investigate.
