Willingness

Jeff,
Thanks for your thoughts.
Something else to add to the list is a Willingness to do it.
The Crane Operator I work with has an Interesting Story. You see, he owns (via a huge debt) the crane he operates. But, he hires the crane to the crane company he works for and they employee him as a normal employee. I asked him how this came about and he said...
I was working for a guy who used to hire Frannas all the time (A Franna is an articulated crane made by an Australian company called Terex - www.terex.com.au). And I asked him, if *I* buy a crane will you Hire it from me instead of the crane companies you hire it from. And he said Yes, but wouldn't guarantee any Amount of work. So I ordered a crane.
While waiting for the crane to arrive I moved jobs and so called a crane company, let them know I had a crane about ready, and asked if they wanted to hire it from me to be part of their fleet. They said yes. And what they pay for hire covers my costs plus throws off extra, and they service and look after the crane.
After six months I asked them to teach me how to operate the crane. They agreed and so employed me.
He said, anyone else in the Yard could do it. One other driver owns his crane clear and does subcontract work for them and makes $1,800 a day - that's a day. Yet, none of the others do it. And now that I have two other cranes on order and about due, they think I am Loaded. Loaded with Debt maybe.
To order the crane is as simple as getting in touch with them and ordering it. If your financing hasn't come through when it's ready to be paid for, they just sell it to another customer on their two year long waiting list.
The other day someone accused him of being loaded. And he said, mate if I was loaded like you think I wouldn't be driving a dam crane I can tell ya.
The difference?
He was willing to take a calculated risk. And based on the planned projects in this city over the next decade, it's a risk that will pay off. And one which the other drivers could see is worth doing as well, but they will choose not to.
Then again, who can blame them... they are clearing, after tax, $1,500+ a week. And have no Outgoings and no headaches. So it's hard for them to be motivated to do something else or get into a business when they are doing over a $100k a year as an employee.
How did he get the next two cranes? He said, the first one was hard as he really had to prove himself. But seeing the bank has access to his financials and they see all is well, they were quite willing with the other two. And especially as he has an agreement the company will also hire those cranes from him.

| PLEASE READ THIS LEGAL NOTICE CAREFULLY BEFORE YOU FILE A LAWSUIT OR EVEN WASTE TIME THINKING ABOUT IT. It has been done before, but never successfully. In fact, the last dodobird who tried it ended up being ordered to pay more than $77,000 in attorney fees ($65,000+ to my attorneys and $12,000+ to my co-defendant's legal advisor).
If your attorney is worth his salt, he's going to tell you that the expense of filing a lawsuit you can't win is a whole lot worse than any "damages" resulting from messages posted on this insignificant little chunk of cyberspace. NEWS FLASH: I didn't just climb down off that ol' turnip truck yesterday. I'm well aware that expressing a negative opinion, relating one's personal experience, and restating provable facts are all legal in this country and do not constitute libel, slander, or defamation -- so you don't want to play games with me, and you sure don't want to start something you aren't prepared to finish. I don't take threats lightly, and I don't accept bribes (or did you call it a "mutually-beneficial arrangement"?). I'll turn you in faster than you can yell, "ARREST ME, I'M SCUM!!" Do yourself a favor and turn your legal team loose in greener pastures. In closing, I would like to remind you once again that it is still legal, in this great country of ours, to express a PERSONAL OPINION, as long as it is presented as opinion and not as fact. And finally, all you scammers out there will do well to remember that TRUTH IS AN ABSOLUTE DEFENSE against charges of libel, defamation, and slander... so if you're operating just a hop, skip, and jump ahead of the law, you might want to think twice before doing anything stupid... (AND SHAME ON YOU!!). |
