In Response To: Oh Lordy... There is *SO* much I don't understand!! (MaaMaw)

You will when you start hosting videos, especially if the site is a successful viral site. Videos suck up bandwidth.

>> It would involve blogging a new video or two every day -- I'm thinking
>> 2-3 minutes each, 5 minutes *absolute* max but not likely.

Just so you know, Youtube has a length limit of 10 minutes per video now. At least that's what I read recently on another forum.

>> What I don't understand is this:
>> How do I monetize if it it's all on YouTube?
>> I know I can put, "Brought to you by (mywebsite.com)" at the
>> end of each video and hope they come -- but truthfully, I don't recall
>> *ever* visiting a website after watching a video on YouTube. I just watch
>> them and move on.

Never look at what you do and think that is what other people do. That's probably one of the biggest mistakes people do when they begin or think about new ventures. If people like your videos when they see them on Youtube, they will come to your site. If this wasn't so, Internet Marketers would not be hogging Youtube like they do. Youtube is a big tool for IMers these days. Maybe the ones that are just like you won't visit your site, but not everyone is just like you. Of course, there are many factors as to why people will visit a URL they see in a video, and one of those things is simply the target market itself (some markets will be more inclined to type in a URL they see in a Youtube video), but don't think this to death or else you'll never get started.

It's really up to you to give them content they want in order to make them want to type in your URL. However, realize that they don't necessarily HAVE TO type in the URL in order to visit your site. See, when your video is playing on Youtube there is a section directly to the right of the video where it says what user the video is from and it also has a link to that user's site if the user has one. At the end of your videos, not only would I make the site's URL show but I would also have an arrow pointing to the link at the right of the video that says "click the link to the left to visit my/our site" or something to that effect. Or like, "click on our link to the right to get your free ebook on WHATEVER". I saw a video last week that did this. I thought it was ingenious. The arrow at the end of the video was lined up directly across from the link to the right on their site. Now, obviously the arrow wouldn't be lined up with the link when viewing the video in full screen mode since the video would take up the whole screen and no link would be visible, so that's why you need to say "click our link to the right" instead of just having the arrow and also display the site URL. Displaying the site URL in the video itself is just good marketing (and IMHO, necessary marketing).

>> Don't I want people to come to *my* site to watch the videos every day
>> -- where I have my links, ads, or whatever?

Yes, you do. See, using youtube doesn't mean that you don't have to market your site other place. You have to do that for sure. Basically, what you're doing is using youtube to host your videos for you and embedding the videos on your own site and at the same time you might also get some traffic from Youtube by doing this. But primarily, at least for now, you're focus is using youtube as your video host. I hope that makes sense.

>> I was thinking along the lines of a few videos on YouTube to beef up
>> traffic now and again --

Right, in your case, your primary use of youtube is as a video host. But in order to maximize the amount of traffic youtube might send you, you have to learn to entitle the movies with titles that you know will a) capture the attention of your audience and b) contain keywords that your audience will be searching with to find videos like or yours or related to the market/niche you are targeting. In that respect, youtube is just like any other site you use for traffic. Good marketing skills will always land you more traffic.

>> But on my own site -- (which you aren't allowed to do on YouTube
>> though I realize people do) -- each new video would end with something
>> like, "Today's broadcast brought to you by ___________"
>> (whatever article I want them to read, or affiliate product I want to
>> pitch, or whatever).

To be honest with you, I am not 100% well-versed in Youtube so I didn't know that you were not allowed to show affiliate links or article links in the videos you host there. Are you sure about that? If you can't show raw affiliate links like http://www.affilaitevendor.com/?affID=55896 then you could always try using a redirect from your site like http://www.yousite.com/affiliateproducthere, which I think is better anyway because it is easier to remember and type in and it looks more "benign". Not to mention that it displays you site in front of their eyes and that's good marketing, IMHO.

>> I'm not sure how to do that unless it's hosted on my site.

If you're correct in that you cannot have aff link URLs in your YT videos, then I don't see why you can't still have your little "Video Sponsored by" notice right under the YT hosted video which is embedded on your site.

Hope this all makes sense.

NOTICE TO SCUMBEEZLES
(you know who you are... you scream "Foul!" when the truth comes out)
PLEASE READ THIS LEGAL NOTICE CAREFULLY BEFORE YOU FILE A LAWSUIT OR EVEN WASTE TIME THINKING ABOUT IT.  It has been done before, but never successfully.  In fact, the last dodobird who tried it ended up being ordered to pay more than $77,000 in attorney fees ($65,000+ to my attorneys and $12,000+ to my co-defendant's legal advisor).
If your attorney is worth his salt, he's going to tell you that the expense of filing a lawsuit you can't win is a whole lot worse than any "damages" resulting from messages posted on this insignificant little chunk of cyberspace.
NEWS FLASH:  I didn't just climb down off that ol' turnip truck yesterday.  I'm well aware that expressing a negative opinion, relating one's personal experience, and restating provable facts are all legal in this country and do not constitute libel, slander, or defamation -- so you don't want to play games with me, and you sure don't want to start something you aren't prepared to finish.  I don't take threats lightly, and I don't accept bribes (or did you call it a "mutually-beneficial arrangement"?).  I'll turn you in faster than you can yell, "ARREST ME, I'M SCUM!!"
Do yourself a favor and turn your legal team loose in greener pastures.

In closing, I would like to remind you once again that it is still legal, in this great country of ours, to express a PERSONAL OPINION, as long as it is presented as opinion and not as fact.
And finally, all you scammers out there will do well to remember that TRUTH IS AN ABSOLUTE DEFENSE against charges of libel, defamation, and slander... so if you're operating just a hop, skip, and jump ahead of the law, you might want to think twice before doing anything stupid... (AND SHAME ON YOU!!).
