You get what you pay for in terms of features, customer service, accuracy, etc.
Harj Gill is GREAT. He wrote a great book that explains why this works. His program is basically the same as United First Financial. However the two SOFTWARE programs are worlds apart.
Unfortunately Harj has not had the money/resources to develop any more than a spreadsheet based program... like Excel, Quicken, etc. These are worth a few hundred bucks certainly, and will most certainly aid you in doing this program. If he had had the money to develop the same algothrim driven software as United First Financial... I would say ...go-for-it! That, unfortunately, is not the case. Harj is great... however the two software programs are apples and oranges.
See... the challenges lie in what happens down the road.
What if your income fluctuates? What if your monthly expenses are not always exactly what your monthly budget sets them as and what you put into your spreadsheet? Now you have to go back and rework all your numbers.
Algorithmns are worth it!! With the algothrims of the United First Financial software you do not have to rework your numbers constantly. It is like a financial GPS system. You simply feed it your numbers and it points to the quickest way to zero paying the least amount of interest. If you can type numbers in boxes and click a mouse you can do this.
Common sense will tell you that this is math... not horseshoes or handgrenades. In short... accuracy counts.
Let me ask you a question. Do you think that when they calculate the trajectory the space shuttle has to take to get to the space station... that they use a spreadsheet program... or an algothrimn driven software program? If you were an astronaut... which would you WANT them to use?
If you do not care about maximizing savings and are happy with just getting most of the savings, and if you do not care about having LIVE one-on-one TECH SUPPORT (you get what you pay for) ... you CAN go the cheaper method.. though even that adds up. According to the last thing I saw on Harj Gills program... there is a yearly fee to pay every year (no monthly or yearly fees with United First Financial).
Add those yearly renewal fees up for the 10 years or so you will be using the program (or more if you are going to buy other houses in future) ... and it ends up being close to, or the same as, the cost of the United First Financial software.
Besides... the programs should be tax deductible for most people (check with your cpa), and the cost of the software comes out of the heloc... not out of pocket. So it is not like buying the more state-of-the-art program has any more pinch to it. It costs most people less than $1 a day to use the program. If that is more than you can handle... see if there is something else you can cut out of your budget... something that is not going to help you send your kids to college, or retire. Maybe you can eliminate that Blockbuster Movie Pass. Maybe you can make your own coffee at home and put it in a thermos, rather than buying it out.
We are talking about your financial future here.

| PLEASE READ THIS LEGAL NOTICE CAREFULLY BEFORE YOU FILE A LAWSUIT OR EVEN WASTE TIME THINKING ABOUT IT. It has been done before, but never successfully. In fact, the last dodobird who tried it ended up being ordered to pay more than $77,000 in attorney fees ($65,000+ to my attorneys and $12,000+ to my co-defendant's legal advisor).
If your attorney is worth his salt, he's going to tell you that the expense of filing a lawsuit you can't win is a whole lot worse than any "damages" resulting from messages posted on this insignificant little chunk of cyberspace. NEWS FLASH: I didn't just climb down off that ol' turnip truck yesterday. I'm well aware that expressing a negative opinion, relating one's personal experience, and restating provable facts are all legal in this country and do not constitute libel, slander, or defamation -- so you don't want to play games with me, and you sure don't want to start something you aren't prepared to finish. I don't take threats lightly, and I don't accept bribes (or did you call it a "mutually-beneficial arrangement"?). I'll turn you in faster than you can yell, "ARREST ME, I'M SCUM!!" Do yourself a favor and turn your legal team loose in greener pastures. Although we may, from time to time, monitor or review discussions, postings and the like on the Friends In Business (Scams 101) Message Board, we are under no obligation to do so. If you cannot accept or agree with the terms of service for this website and discussion board, you are advised not to post on this board. In closing, I would like to remind you once again that it is still legal, in this great country of ours, to express a PERSONAL OPINION, as long as it is presented as opinion and not as fact. And finally, all you scammers out there will do well to remember that TRUTH IS AN ABSOLUTE DEFENSE against charges of libel, defamation, and slander... so if you're operating just a hop, skip, and jump ahead of the law, you might want to think twice before doing anything stupid... (AND SHAME ON YOU!!). |
