I hope this helps...

Basically a "Dutch" is when you have lots of the same item that you wish to sell all at the same price. (or offer at the same price that is)

For example, if you have 10 CDs all the same and you want to sell each one separately for $9, you could list them in a Dutch with a minimum bid of $9 and start selling. This does not prevent bidders from buying more than one copy as they are allowed to specify the number they want as they are performing their bid. In addition if 11 people bid then either the first 10 win unless anyone bids a higher amount. The one person who bid the highest wins at their higher amount and the others get theirs on a first bid - first win basis.

Now, on the other hand, if you have 10 CDs that are all different then you would list them in separate ads with their starting bids on each.

There are some pitfalls to using a "Dutch".

In the first place some new bidders might find it confusing and think that they are actually bidding on a lot of 10 CDs as opposed to the actual number they agree to buy.

In the second place, you need to protect yourself in regards to pricing which means that you might end up losing some sales because your starting bid ends up scaring people away.

And finally your ad REALLY needs to be completely clear about just what they are bidding on, how much, and all of the other specifics. Because Dutch auctions sometimes leave bidders confused from the start, anything you can do to avoid unnecessary confusion works in your favor.

Be sure that your ad shows pictures, lots of detailed info regarding what you are offering, and make things REALLY clear regarding your shipping policies, return policies, and guarantees.
