Uhmmm.... I take it you don't own any GPSes?

You're apparently not familiar with the quirks of the systems. I've used and loved them for at least the past 10 years, but they're not perfect. I had one try to route me from one town to another by a route that was 400 miles longer than the shortest actual route (along the Old Stagecoach Trail in the heart of Texas).

But to return to your original example: If you have someone familiar with maps and so forth, the results are about the same as with a good GPS. And maps are often updated yearly with new route information -- your GPS system may be 3-4 years out of date. There is no point in paying a lot for technology unless it does something that you can't do by other means.

I love mine. But occasionally they're not as reliable as paper maps. I use the technique of paying ahead to pay off loans quicker and save money... but I don't pay a lot of money for software to show me how to do it.
