I would have to agree that booking your own airfare is probably the same price through a travel agent or through the airline itself - but some people don't want the hassle of contacting every airline to find the best price. Travel agents are in the service industry. They provide a service that people just don't want to have to do for themselves.
I am a Pro Travel Network Agent and I love it. I don't just refer people to my website so they can book their own travel, I am an Independent Travel Agent. I can take the same training as other travel agents and go as far in the industry as I want. I book travel through many of the same travel companies that they deal with and get the same prices they do. Pro Travel Network is a licensed travel agency and I am one of their travel agents.
