I was a rep for AmeriPlan for a while. They have a good program and it is a great benefit for the right people.

As a business, it is like any other... if you work at it you can do well, though it takes time to build a business with it. I did it as a business until I got my commission for selling it to where it was paying for own plan, plus more, however I never gave it my "all" and know I could have done better, had I put more effort in. Some people have done quite well, though it has been around awhile and can be over-saturated in some areas.

One downside is that, as a discount plan, some people will sign up for it when they need work done, then cancel it when they don't think they need it anymore.

I have talked to some former reps who had problems with the company changing the compensation plan and make greater requirements, but I don't know the details and often find that people who complain are just looking for something else to blame for their lack of success, rather than looking in the mirror.

Bottom line though... I think it is a good company and a good program. If it is something you can get enthusiastic about, great. It is also a "value-added" program you could add to an existing business if you were, for instance, an insurance agent, financial planner, cpa, or someone that offered other health related services.
