I think you are missing the point. I could still be using an Underwood typewriter rather than a wordprocessor, computer, etc. Innovations make it easy for the masses to tackle complicated issues.
The program is a one time payment. No one really cares if there is a simpler solution out there. I honor your convictions and your beliefs but why are you wasting your time effort to challenge this program.
If individuals/homeowners/consumers looked at a spreadsheet of what their mortgage payments would be at the end of 1 yr, 5yrs, 10yrs when they singed on the line for some of the ARM's, etc, we would not be in the debacle that the country is facing right now.
If nothing else, the program provides a method and education for individuals to change their mindset about their mortgage and debt in general. The program offers a viable solution for many homeowners. It is not the least inexpensive way to do it but the program is viable.
No, I haven't signed up for the program... Yet.. I am still on the Fence but as one home after the other goes into foreclosure all around me here in Sacramento, I wish I could have educated some folks on what to do with their HELOC (Not the new BMW or Lexus)
So, someone came up with another way to teach homeowners how to use their money, equity,mortgage for their benefit in the long run.
