Re: OT War fuel price changes

Pete said "Recent figures have shown that 75% of your cost for a gallon of gas is for the cost of crude. The other 25% is broken up into refining, delivery, taxes, etc." - here in the UK, I think the proportions are slightly different.
I found this quote from the Daily Telegraph newspaper
"How much profit do they make on a litre of petrol?
If a litre of petrol costs £1.10, it comprises 50.35p in fuel duty and 16.38p in VAT. The wholesale price of the fuel is about 42p, leaving a profit of about 2p for the retailer.
How much does the Government make from fuel duty and VAT?
In 2006-7 the Government collected £23.6 billion in fuel duties and a further £6.8 billion from VAT on fuel.
How much tax do oil companies pay?
In 2002, Gordon Brown introduced a North Sea tax on energy companies of 10 per cent of profits, which increased to 20 per cent in 2005. The Government’s total income from this windfall tax was £9 billion in 2006-7, which will grow considerably as a result of the increased profits. Shell paid about £1 billion in tax on UK profits in 2006, although oil companies trade internationally, meaning they do not pay all of their taxes in Britain."
Currently the retail price of a LITRE of gas is £1.24 - so the government's tax windfall increases as they levy taxes on increasing wholesale gas prices.
So, Sandi - my guess as to the cost of running a ship 37 miles would be $3870 - is that anywhere close??

| PLEASE READ THIS LEGAL NOTICE CAREFULLY BEFORE YOU FILE A LAWSUIT OR EVEN WASTE TIME THINKING ABOUT IT. It has been done before, but never successfully. In fact, the last dodobird who tried it ended up being ordered to pay more than $77,000 in attorney fees ($65,000+ to my attorneys and $12,000+ to my co-defendant's legal advisor).
If your attorney is worth his salt, he's going to tell you that the expense of filing a lawsuit you can't win is a whole lot worse than any "damages" resulting from messages posted on this insignificant little chunk of cyberspace. NEWS FLASH: I didn't just climb down off that ol' turnip truck yesterday. I'm well aware that expressing a negative opinion, relating one's personal experience, and restating provable facts are all legal in this country and do not constitute libel, slander, or defamation -- so you don't want to play games with me, and you sure don't want to start something you aren't prepared to finish. I don't take threats lightly, and I don't accept bribes (or did you call it a "mutually-beneficial arrangement"?). I'll turn you in faster than you can yell, "ARREST ME, I'M SCUM!!" Do yourself a favor and turn your legal team loose in greener pastures. In closing, I would like to remind you once again that it is still legal, in this great country of ours, to express a PERSONAL OPINION, as long as it is presented as opinion and not as fact. And finally, all you scammers out there will do well to remember that TRUTH IS AN ABSOLUTE DEFENSE against charges of libel, defamation, and slander... so if you're operating just a hop, skip, and jump ahead of the law, you might want to think twice before doing anything stupid... (AND SHAME ON YOU!!). |
